Central Post Office To Be Dedicated Thursday May 13
Invitations have been mailed for the May 13 dedication at 10 a.m. of the new Central Post Office. Postmaster Calixto Garcia announced the event featuring Snell Junior High School Band directed by Wayne Thomas. The $12,000, 1200 square foot building replaces a 360 square foot former facility and adds more than 9000 square feet of parking and space. It is part of a lease construction program financing facilities privately owned and leased to the government. Garcia, the 15th postmaster since 1897, has 19 years of continuous service, the longest since the first postmaster. The new building was erected by Abel T. Lana of Central.

Sixth Victim Dies From Lordsburg Road Crash
LORDSBURG AP The sixth victim of last weekend’s highway tragedy east of Lordsburg died Monday night at a local hospital. Lloyd F. P. Buss 38, left a wife and three children dead in the crash along with a fourth child Sunday and is survived by Clarence Buss 10 the sole remaining member in Lordsburg. Lowell 12 and Charlotte 7 were transported to El Paso for treatment. Charlotte was critical and the boys in fair condition. The family station wagon struck a parked road construction machine on a marked closed section of highway. Buss worked for the firm building the highway. State Police say the deaths will not be counted in the official traffic toll since the roadway was closed to traffic with signs posted.

Vertical Takeoff Jet Crashes During Public Flight Test
A Ryan Aeronautical XVSA experimental jet crashed in the desert during its first public test at Edwards Air Force Base California. Pilot Lou Everett 42 ejected but his parachute failed to open. the World War II veteran and chief engineer was killed. The aircraft, built by General Electric and Ryan, had logged 52 prior successful flights and featured vertical takeoff and jet-powered forward flight capabilities. Everett, born in Brooklyn, survived by his widow Betty June and four children, and had been with Ryan for a decade after graduating from Mississippi State.
