AP Special Correspondent describes the Comoro Islands as growing restless after independence from France. locals face sanitation issues, unemployment, and closed factories while tourism hopes rise with air access, new government guidance, and social life centered on weddings and funerals.
Grant County Bank announces two new officers, Milford Fisher and LeRoy Swann. Fisher, former Bayard Branch VP and manager, relocates from Ohio and holds an Ohio University degree and banking diploma. Swann, ex State National Bank of El Paso, joins as VP and cashier after studies at Minnesota and Colorado banking school.
Antonio G. Macias of Silver City is among 686 candidates for graduation at Eastern New Mexico University. Baccalaureate and commencement services begin Friday April 30 at 8 p.m. in the Physical Education Complex Arena. Governor Jerry Apodaca will give the main address on The Challenges of 1976. The list includes 47 associate degrees, 467 bachelor’s degrees, and 172 master’s degrees, with 112 graduates honors. Macias earns a bachelor of science in industrial education.
Willis 5 Bill Graeff 61 of Grant County New Mexico died at Sun Towers Hospital El Paso Texas after a long illness. He retired from Kennecott Copper Corp as maintenance supervisor of the Precipitation Plant. Survived by wife Dorothy two sons Edward and William eight grandchildren two sisters and one brother. Funeral Saturday at Curtis Bright Funeral Home with burial Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Contributions to Heart Fund or Valley Community Church.
In colonial days two famous post roads carried mail between key cities. The Albany Post Road connected Albany to New York, while the Hoston Post Road linked Boston and New York.
The Grant County Republican Party schedules a Southwest Regional meeting Saturday April 24 at the Holiday Motel with 11 30 a m registration and a 12 30 p m no host luncheon. State party leaders and national committee members will attend including Jack Stahl Bob Davidson Francis Shipman Mary Ann Gomez Dennis Stevens and Carl Tinker. Afternoon sessions through 4 p m cover GOP platform and delegate selection to the national convention in Kansas City Missouri in August. County chairman Jack Davis invites all county Republicans and those registered in 1974 to attend.
