Base Course Laid For Blacktop On Mule Creek Road
The Arizona Highway Department plans to lay a full blacktop on the remaining unpaved section of Mule Creek road from the New Mexico border to the Duncan Clifton highway. About seven miles are paved in Arizona with another mile completed last fall. Two to three miles remain rough near the Needle Eye, but top piping may finish this spring. The project will connect the west side of the Gila National Forest to Saf ford, Duncan, Clifton, Morenci and Tucson, and offer an alternate Phoenix to El Paso route, boosting tourist traffic to Silver City and Bayard.
