U S Bombers Return to Strike North Vietnam Vinh Front
U S B52 bombers again attacked targets around Vinh after a four year gap, signaling a show of force from President Nixon. North Vietnamese forces continued attacks north of Saigon as 20,000 more South Vietnamese troops moved toward An Loc. Nine allied ships bombarded DMZ areas while a U S plane was reported down. Hoang Xuan Lam claimed a major defeat for North Vietnam as fighting raged near Quang Tri.
