Wallin Named New C of C Chief for 1966
Gayland Wallin, owner of Hic kory House Motel and Restaurant, was chosen to lead the Silver City-Grant County Chamber of Commerce by the board. Sam Murphy will be first vice president and Viola Smith second vice president. George Horton named treasurer. The officers plan an executive meeting to discuss the 1966 67 program. The board heard about the July 4 celebration with bands from El Paso and Tucson and Thunderbird Dancers from Carlsbad, plus fireworks, concerts, dances, art festivals, rodeo, barbecues, and a parade expected to attract about 12 000 visitors. A $4 000 fundraising goal was set to finance the three day event, with encouragement to proceed despite opposition from nearby communities. The vote to continue the celebration plan passed unanimously.

State Fair Film to Be Shown at Chamber Luncheon
A 20 minute color film on last year’s New Mexico State Fair will be shown at Wednesday’s Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce luncheon. Betty Biggs says the film was released by the State Fair Commission and Hugh Hawkins will conduct the meeting in his last act as chamber president before officers change.

Uncle of Bayard pastor dies in Texas
HW Morrow of Hurley reports the death of George Stewart of Greenville Texas. He leaves a widow Essie Stewart four daughters Ruth Shockley Ruby Nell Sims Joyce Bradley Retha Morrow and three sons B G RV J B plus many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Stewart was an uncle of Weldon Stewart former Bayard Assembly of God Church pastor now in Albuquerque.
