Ford Joins Western New Mexico University as Visiting Geology Pro

Dr Philip J Ford associate geology professor at Eastern Illinois University will teach general geology at Western New Mexico University this summer. He has taught at Eastern since 1966 after earlier work at DePauw University and holds a PhD from Ohio State 1965. The eight hour ten week course includes labs and twice weekly field trips with no prerequisites.

Baby Sydney Belt Born at Hillcrest General Hospital

Mr and Mrs Sidney Belt welcomed a daughter named Sydney Carlotta born Saturday evening at Hillcrest General Hospital. The four pound nine ounce girl has two brothers Eric aged two and Donald aged one. Mother Vivian Pierce is daughter of Riley and Mrs Pierce of Hurley. Father is a pressman at the Silver City Daily Press.

ITT Offer Questioned by Sen Church on Chile Intervention

In a Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee hearing led by Senator Frank Church, ITT chairman Harold Geneen testified about a $1 million offer to back US government actions in Chile. Church called the dual purpose proposal improper intervention and pledged to push legislation banning corporate money to CIA or government actions. United States may deny Viet Cong observer visa

United States officials signaled they may refuse a visa to Viet Cong observer Tin Nguyen Van as the Viet Cong named him to a U N post in Paris. The U S deputy to the U N urged Secretary General Waldheim to reject the appointment amid questions of recognition and implications for U N headquarters. A State Department spokesman said it was too early to say whether Washington would refuse a visa if Waldheim accepts Tin.

New Mexico Gas Reserves Drop After 1972 Report

Gas report from Santa Fe shows the American Gas Association estimates New Mexico lost 54 percent of proved natural gas reserves and 8.6 percent of natural gas liquids reserves in 1972. State production of gas plant gear was surpassed by only three states, with Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas ahead in natural gas prediction.
