Social Security Quarters Determine Retirement Benefits
The article explains how quarters of coverage are earned for Social Security benefits. A $50 wage in any three month period earns a quarter, $400 net annual profit earns four quarters for self employed, and quarters can also be earned for farm or domestic work, government, or private employment. After earning 40 quarters, about ten years of work, you are insured for life. Near retirement age, check with the Social Security office to see how many quarters you need and what you have earned. Sometimes only one more quarter is needed.
