Bond Market Interest Highest Since 1935
Harris Finder for Silsbee Independent School District and James R. Tucker and Associates outlined plans to sell a 1.15 million dollar bond issue. Rates have risen to about 3.75 to 4 percent, threatening district tax support. A 610 thousand dollar block may be offered to the Teachers Retirement Fund with terms set before the October 1 meeting. If rejected, the remaining 500 thousand will wait for better rates. Construction bids came in 10 percent over estimates, with Herman Weber Inc. low at 954,995, and the gymnasium omitted. The board will proceed once contracts are signed, or reprice for market. Members face complex market jargon and decisions on sale type.
