Two Drownings Mark Labor Day in Silsbee
Two young boys died in drowning incidents during the Labor Day weekend near Silsbee. Roddy Lewis 10 and Gordon Duval Gary 5 disappeared while wading in a pond behind a pasture and in Village Creek respectively. Rescue efforts failed and both were pronounced dead by local physicians. Funeral services were held for both boys with local and Beaumont area funeral homes handling arrangements.

Brooks to Open Beaumont District Office September
Congressman Jack Brooks will open a Beaumont district office in the Post Office Building around September 15 and plans to arrive a few days later. He will stay home during Congress’s adjournment to complete his Marine Corps two week active duty and clear Washington workload before the January session. Johnny Williams Injured Riding Horse in Beaumont Area
Johnny Williams, game warden and caretaker at the Har jin County Wildlife Association preserve in the Big Thick et, suffered a serious injury last week when a horse bolted and threw him into a tree. He was brought home by companions and Friday morning taken to Baptist Hospital in Beaumont for surgery. His condition was serious but improving, with several more days expected in hospital before release.
