Putting Autos On Tax Rolls Would Cost Owners $72 Million
Austin Comptroller Bob Bullock warned that adding automobiles to tax rolls would impose over 72 million dollars in taxes yearly on Harris County motorists. He noted the move would affect county city and school district bills and shift 21 million from elderly homestead exemptions to other local governments. He also said the elderly exemption has been a permissive local option, with many governments already granting it when affordable.
