Disruptive Influences Part Of City's Past
Silsbee’s early history includes rough logging communities and saloons near Red Cut and the railroad. Prohibition, moonshine, and bootleggers shaped the era until 1909 when saloons were voted out and new industry rose. The 1919 1920 Santa Fe strike left lasting scars, followed by the 1929 depression and 1930s hardships before oil discovery spurred gradual growth and WWII era recovery led by Kirby’s mill and Eastex Plant Eva dale.
