The Old Timers host their annual meeting Sunday November 9 at the O Neil School on Highway 96 South. Registration starts 10 30 a m and lunch is served at 12 30 p m. Charles Watts president invites current and former residents to attend.
In medieval times the term garbage described a stew of chicken heads feet and innards. Over the weekend Mrs Maxine Wood and Mr and Mrs Ricky Brown visited the home of Mr and Mrs Gary Wood in San Antonio. They then traveled Saturday to Nuevo Laredo Mexico.
Jerry Hawthorne underwent an emergency appendectomy Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. He is reported in stable condition with no complications.
Dr Randol R Read of Tulsa Oklahoma coauthored a 44 page section titled Two Dimensional Recursive Filtering in the newly published college textbook Topics In Applied Physics edited by Dr T S Huang of Purdue University. Read is a 1962 graduate of Silsbee High School and earned degrees from Rice University.
A hunter bagged an albino squirrel near Old Maids Road in the Neches River bottom north of Silsbee on October 24. A letter signed with initials says the white animal was a pet from another state that strayed. Previous white squirrels were reported in the Silsbee area, including ten years ago.
The Lumberton-Silsbee Raiders beat Regina-Howell 13-0 in the Beaumont West End YMCA football league on Nov 1. Mance Cutbirth and Blake McRoberts scored touchdowns, Flynt Huey added the PAT. The Oct 25 game was postponed by heavy rain. next they face Amelia-Vincent Vikings on Nov 8 at Vincent Junior High Stadium.
Funeral services for Hez C. Williams 82 of Beaumont were held at 2 p.m. November 5 at Broussard's Mortuary with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Williams who died at 9:50 a.m. Monday in a local nursing home was born in Warren and spent most of his life in Beaumont. He was a retired carpenter with M&M Portable Buildings. Survivors include his daughter Mrs. Irene Kirkland of Beaumont and his son Earl Williams of Silsbee.
The Silsbee Trail Riders plan a November 12 gathering at 7 p.m. in the Silsbee State Bank. Dr. Billy Crenshaw of Lumberton will present a program titled Swamp Fever. Secretary Carolyn Riker says the meeting is open to the public.

Firefighters reported steady calls as Silsbee volunteers battled fires at Cunningham’s Grocery 12 miles north on FM 92 and, earlier, a gasoline pump fire. A patrol car damage incident, a Western Auto neon sign fire, and oil spills on US 96 near Dardin Drive plus a grass fire near 203 Easy Street were also addressed.

She works at Texas Commerce Bank, graduated Silsbee High, studies at the University of Houston, and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. K. Johnson of Silsbee.
