The Kirby Elementary School room mothers met in the school cafetorium and voted on how to spend funds raised. Chairwoman Mrs. Faye Williams oversaw decisions to buy a Texas flag a lighter swing seat replacement and a magazine rack with subscriptions for the school.

The fruit cakes will be in room chairmen's hands by week end and buyers may contact any mother of the school or the school office. Proceeds from the sale will augment the general fan fund to buy fans for the school.
Rev. and Mrs. David Blalock will be honored with a reception Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Baptist Church recreational hall. Mr. Blalock, formerly pastor at First Baptist Bronson, arrived in Silsbee two weeks ago to lead the Good Shepherd church. They hail from Anadarko Oklahoma and he has six years in ministry. Church women hostesses invite the public.
A preferential tea will climax the fall rush activities for Nu Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. The tea is set for Sunday from 3 to 5 at the home of Mrs. Bill Hilliard with Mrs. James Hays as cohostess. Rushees listed include Mrs. Louis E Carruth Mrs. B C Taff Mrs. James Ward Mrs. Julian Bankston and Miss Teresa Cowart.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service of the First Methodist Church met in Cravens Hall at 9 30. Mrs C E Richmond led the meeting and Mrs W P Crockett opened with prayer. Plans were set for a Nov 16 walk-in coffee and a Nov 7 citizenship event at 9 30 at Mrs O C Seely's home. The program theme In to All The World Together featured a panel on interdenominational cooperation with Mrs A E Redkey Mrs Doyle McKeown Mrs Herman Adams Mrs R E Jonte and Mrs Richmond leading. Fifteen members attended.
The Sabine Neches Pro Am Golf Association will host its monthly tournament at Silsbee Country Club Friday. Local players from Port Arthur Orange Beaumont Woodville Jasper Groves and Sulphur La. are invited with golfers expected from across the region. The club touts year round installation and good drainage for immediate play after rains while wintergrass will be planted on greens next week to protect turf.
Thirty two players participated in a bridge tournament at Silsbee Country Club after forming a duplicate bridge club. Attendees included Mrs A L Wor nick and organizers Mrs Doris Tompkins Mrs Elizabeth LeBlanc and Ed Allen of Beaumont. North South winners were Mrs B L Moreland and Mrs L O Turrentine while Fast and West winners tied among Mrs Tine Turner Mrs Loren Lisk Mrs E M Prewitt and Mrs W C McNeil. The club plans another session tonight at 7 30.
Den 7 of Cub Scout Pack 199 held a Thursday meeting at Mrs. Charlie Richards residence with assistant den mother Mrs Joy Caraway and all cubs present. They sang God Bless America and made trick or treat bags. Yearly projects were discussed and the meeting closed with the law of the pack. David Stutts scribe.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Wiggins age 55 of Beaumont were held Thursday at 3 30 p m in Broussard's Mortuary Chapel. She died Wednesday in Municipal hospital after a long illness. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. She was a sister of Mrs. Bob Glenn of Silsbee.
The Primus Chapel CME church youth group met at the McDonald home. They will sponsor a weiner roast at the church Saturday night at 7 p.m. Chester Burks is president and Irene McDonald is secretary.
The WMU of Woodrow Baptist Church conducted installation Thursday with Mrs. H C Davidson of Beaumont as installing officer. Officers installed for the new church year include Mrs Henry Nix as president, Mrs Edward Davis as vice president, and other chairmen and directors across YWA GA Jubilee Sunbeam and stewardship roles. Edward Davis outgoing president. weekly meeting followed with year book study.
The Mount Olivet Baptist Church hosts an all day leadership training clinic for Woman's Missionary Union members on Thursday starting at 8 a.m. Attendees include WMU members from Good Shepherd Silsbee First Spurger Mount Nebo Fred and Mt Olivet. The program features devotional teaching by several leaders and offers denominational accreditation upon completion.
Local schools publish weekly meal plans listing Monday meat loaf and whipped potatoes. Tuesday pork chops with sweet potatoes and green beans. Wednesday hamburgers with potato salad. Thursday stew with vegetables and cake. Friday fried chicken with rice and English peas. Milk and bread offered daily.
The Exquisett Club, a Negro women’s civic group, announced plans to liquidate the $2400 debt on a three acre playground purchased from the late Dr. W. H. Beazley for $2500. Mrs. Birdie Singleton, president, thanked Silsbee residents for their help in the land purchase and appealed for further contributions to clear the remaining $100 balance.
Miss Barbara Gene McMahon of Texas City and Edward E. York of this city wed on Oct. 8. Rev. Doyle Davis of Wolters Baptists officiated at 8:30 p.m. in his Wolters home. Barbara is the daughter of Mrs. Mary Ella Willby and Eugene E. McMahan. Edward is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Estel York. The newlyweds will reside in Wolters until York’s Army discharge in March.
Silsbee and Jasper traded scores as Joe Blackmon sparked the Tigers with a key interception and a late second quarter run. Read and Barrow connected for a two point conversion, Ken Cones added the extra point, and Barrow’s clock-savvy play helped set up two scores in a hard fought contest.
Voters can cast ballots at Milner's Store in Thicket on Friday January 13 from 9:00 to 12:00 noon. Voters in Votaw vote Friday January 13 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Collins' Silsbee holds all day January 16 and 17 at the Fire Station. Honey Island polls January 18 from 1:00 to 4:00 at Grand Store. Willie Bean location hours listed.
The Methodist Men will host an annual pancake supper on Thursday November 17 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cravens Hall First Methodist Church. Proceeds fund the sponsorship of Cub Pack 88 Boy Scout Troop 88 and Explorer Post 88, as announced by Al Ragan.
Mrs. Bud Caraway announces the marriage of her daughter Geneva to H. Gene Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Miller of Victor. The couple wed October 14 at 7 30 p m in Newton Texas and will reside in Silsbee where Miller works for Surf Lease Construction Company.
The training features adult civil defense instructors including a Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College graduate. Rev. Grant Herbst, civil defense director for Silsbee, introduced the speaker and chaired the program. Lions Club President J D Donalson announced the annual light bulb sale for November 7 8 and 9 conducted jointly with Lions clubs across Southeast Texas.
The WSCS invites members and interested ladies to a Citizenship Coffee on Monday morning Nov 7 1960 at 9 30 am. It will be in Mrs O C Seelys Cravens Drive home with Mrs W C McNeil as co host and Mrs S P Copeland involved.
