City approves 1961 62 budget with surplus
City council approved the 1961 62 budget and set June 6 for public viewing. Total combined spending in water sewer and general fund is 165 678 with estimated income 166 325 leaving a 647 42 general fund and 605 water and sewer surplus. Council rejected a plan to move drunk in car cases to city court and to operate county jail layouts, arguing potential net loss. Adjustments were made to offset an expected 9 000 in new income by cutting 7 500 sanitation expenses 4 000 for land 3 500 for equipment and other trims. The plan requires no tax increase. current tax roll stands at 4 500 000 with a 1.25 per 100 valuation rate yielding about 50 625 net revenue after 90 percent collection for general and debt operations.
