David James Blackmon 30 was cited for disorderly conduct after being arrested in the nude outside the Bell 7 11 on North Fifth Street Sunday night. A clerk reported the unclothed man, later found at the rear of the car wash beside the store, wearing only socks and shoes.
Four students from Silsbee and Lumberton joined 115 distinguished Lamar University graduates last Saturday night. Jerry Cheney of Groves earned top honors with a perfect 4.0 GPA in biology and will pursue a PhD at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Danese Buel Johnson of Lumberton and Richard Tim Atmar of Silsbee graduated with honors in education and English, respectively, while Sharon Ann McNally of Lumberton earned the highest associate degree with a 3.94 GPA in dental hygiene.
Funeral services for Clay Reese Kirkpatrick aged 20 months were held May 10 at 3 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home with burial in Wharton Cemetery. He died in an auto pedestrian collision while visiting in Ganado on May 8. Survivors include parents W. J. Kirkpatrick Jr. and wife, two sisters Leah and Gina, all of Boling, and grandparents W. J. Kirkpatrick of Buna and John Dittrich of Ganado.
The Bicentennial event climax, an open house and awards program, will be held May 22 in Prince Hall Villa meeting room. Yard judging runs 10 am to noon, followed by a social hour and an antique exhibit guided by Leola Ewing. A guest speech by James Clayton Perkins, Mahalia Jackson interpretation, and Bicentennial costumes featured. Video Tape Vanorama offers do it yourself classes on home repairs from 10 am to 3 pm, with free booklets.
Spurger Junior High School selects Marvin Mott valedictorian and Chris Johnson salutatorian for 1975 76. Jim Lowrance announces the honors. Marvin is the son of Mr and Mrs Robert Mott of Spurger with a two year average of 92.94. Chris is the daughter of Mr and Mrs James Johnson of Hillister with an average of 92.06.
Tyler County Grand Jury in session over alleged fund misuse tied to federal allocations for the Deep East Texas Council of Governments projects. District Attorney Stanley Coe in Woodville declined comment while Belt resigns after a May primary loss. Belt’s attorney Joe Smith also refused to discuss the designation.
Henry Lee Mitchell III, son of Betty Ann Mitchell of Silbee, received a bachelor of business administration degree at Southern Methodist University’s 61st annual commencement. About 2,760 degrees were conferred at Moody Coliseum by SMU President James H. Zaumb erge, the largest total in the university’s history.
Over the weekend visiting at the home of Mr and Mrs W H Holland were their son Howard Holland of Los Angeles California Harrell Holland and family of New Caney and Mrs J C Jones and her husband of Beaumont Texas plus their daughter and family.
Silsbee High School will award diplomas to 263 graduates at Commencement Exercises on May 26 at 7 30 p.m. in Kirby Memorial Stadium. The program features the processional Pomp and Circumstance, invocations, salutatory by Karen Riceman, music by the band and choir, and a valedictory by Pamela McMillan with multiple honors.
An 18 year old Stisbee man was treated at St Elizabeth Hospital and released after a Friday night cutting scrape in Brittonville. Sheriff Billy Paine said the victim did not press charges and no charges were filed. the incident involved an altercation in a front yard and confusion over what occurred.
Testimony began in 88th District Court in a suit totaling 586000 filed by Sear Lake Justice of the Peace Charlie Lambert against Alton Carlin Wagley and others. The petition alleges Wagley falsely charged Lambert with robbery by firearms and theft of 1700 gallons of gasoline in 1973.
No charges filed Wednesday against a youth who fired into a group of teens after an argument at a youth club on Fre Seniuos Road. Sheriff says the juvenile was turned over to county juvenile department. investigators may pursue further action. Deputy Williams requested backup from Silbee Police as teens gathered. Chief Deputy Horapfel assisted. The gunman returned home for a mother’s 22 caliber pistol following the pool dispute.
Hardin County residents will receive about 3.9 million dollars in federal tax refunds for 1975 due to overwithholding and overlooked tax credits. Nationwide refunds total 80 billion to over 67 million taxpayers, with an average 421 dollars per person. Social Security recipients will gain about 64 percent more starting July from automatic cost of living adjustments, lifting total incremental spending as the economy grows.
Five Silsbee students were among 8 500 graduates and degree candidates at the University of Houston spring and fall ceremonies held May 16 at Holheinz Pavilion. Randall Meyer of Exxon U S A delivered the address as UH President Philip G Hoffman presided and awarded degrees.

January Read, a sophomore at Silsbee High School and daughter of Mrs. Jack Read, was named Outstanding Soloist of the Day at the Tri-State Music Festival in Enid Oklahoma. She performed Sheep May Safely Graze with taped piano, judged among about 70 soloists. the Silsbee A Cappella Choir also earned top rating in its class.
Larry Wayne Irvin of 197 Bonner Street Silsbee appears on the University of Texas College of Pharmacy honor roll for the 1975 76 fall semester. The list includes students with at least a B average for 12 semester hours. Irvin's average qualifies him for high honors.
The 10th annual outdoor Master Mason degree event, hosted by the 26th Masonite District, will occur Saturday May 22 at 1 30 pm on prime grounds between Silsbee and Keounty off arm Road 32. A special degree team from multiple towns will confer 126 ceremonies in colorful costumes under direction of district officers. A luncheon will be served at noon by the Cadian Lodge members.
A vaccination clinic is scheduled for May 27 at the Fire Hall. A veterinarian will vaccinate pets and city dog tags will be available. Mrs. Rubs Hite returned to City Dalles this week after visiting the home of Mes. W. BE Shelfield.
