Price Index Shows January Increase in 1968
The Labor Department reports consumer prices up 0.3 percent from a year earlier led by higher food gasoline medical care and postage costs. The Wholesale Price Index rose 0.4 percent to 107.2 and 0.9 percent above January 1967 with farm products and processed foods driving much of the rise.
Proximate Cause and Liability in Personal Injury Cases
The article discusses how liability for injuries hinges on causation and foreseeability. It explains that without a causal link or if harm was not reasonably foreseeable, defendants avoid liability. It also covers intervening causes and a hardware dealer example where foreseeing boyish mischief kept him liable.
Inflation Pushes Up Services and Goods Across Markets
Prices for appliances and furniture continued to edge higher alongside wholesale and retail goods. Consumer services rose 0.5 percent in January, driving about half of the CPI increase. Medical care costs climbed with higher fees for doctors and dentists and hospital charges. Postal rate hikes and rising mortgage interest costs contributed to the overall rise. Auto insurance, registration fees, and driver permits also increased in several cities.
