Deficit measures stall as Texas House votes on tax bills
Texas House stalled on Gov Price Daniel deficit plans after votes derailed a gas production tax increase and two measures on abandoned property and franchise taxes. A utility tax bill faced delays amid amendments, while horse racing polling faced delaying action as church groups pressed opposition. Debates over driver insurance merit ratings and milk import standards sparked industry back and forth, with aviation funding and firemen pension tax proposals also under consideration.

It notes schedules by age and occupation, with checks including medical history and physical exams to detect disease early. The piece remarks on diet and lifestyle discussions and mentions a traditional term for potatoes tied to a tongue in cheek note about the Society for the Prevention of Unwholesome Diet.
