New Social Security Rules for Farm Workers in 1955
The new social security law affects self employed farmers and farm workers starting January 1 1955. Regular farm employees earning up to 100 dollars from a single employer become covered by old age and survivors insurance. Workers must obtain a social security number and card from the nearest office, using the same number for life. Self employed operators with net earnings of 400 dollars or more in 1955 must file a tax return and include their social security number. Deadline for 1955 filings is April 15 1956.
