Hooks Take Charge Of Hardin County Dump Improvements
County Judge Emmett Lack said the offer by Commissioner Hooks to run the county dump would not solve the garbage problem but the court agreed to have Hooks bring the site into compliance with state rules. Lack warned residents are fencing off land to curb litter and illegal dumping as the county weighs increased enforcement and more dumps. The sole dump, three miles southwest of Kountze, faced eight violations cited by the Texas Department of Health Resources, with Hooks promising corrections in a week. Ed York, tax attorney for 18 East Texas entities, offered to pursue delinquent taxes. Lack noted the county’s prior attorney had already handled such cases. The court asked York to return once McCreight recovers.
