IRS Q&A on joint accounts and charitable stock gifts
A joint savings account should use the husband’s Social Security number for identification. For joint accounts with a minor, use the adult’s number. Donating stock to charity can let the charity take the full fair market value and avoid tax on appreciation. cash gifts are less advantageous.
