GSU Presses Bond Health to Justify Rate Hike
Gulf States Utilities official Thomas Page told Silsbee City Council a rate increase is vital to preserve a AA bond rating and fund the 1985 switch from gas boilers to coal or nuclear. He cited past efficiency gains, explained the prompt payment discount is really a late fee, and noted a $3.50 monthly disconnection charge as part of a broader rate restructure. The council approved bills and HUD federal aid resolution.
