City Retirement System Advances For City Employees

The Silsbee City Council completed planning for a state sponsored retirement system covering all city workers and will place it on next Tuesday’s agenda for formal action. If adopted, about 35 to 36 employees would participate, with the city matching a fixed percentage of salaries and allowing withdrawals of the employee deposits upon leaving service while the city portion remains. City Manager Ronald Hickerson reported ongoing street repairs, targeting about 3.5 miles more this summer after equipment repairs, including topping 1.5 miles of dirt streets and overlaying about 2 miles of sealed streets, with iron ore hauled to build a four inch base on East Avenue J.
