The Silsbee Bee announces publication from Silsbee Texas under the Act of March 1879 with DAVID READ and BOB READ as publisher and editor manager.
The Bee lists candidates for numerous offices subject to July Democratic primaries. Names include Frank S. Payne reelection bid for Commissioner Precinct 1, Clarence McNeely for County Clerk, Frank H. Carpenter for State Representative District 19, Neal House for County School Superintendent, Stout Collier for Assessor-Collector, Louis Sellers for Justice of the Peace Pet, Whitaker and A Eaves for Sheriff, Ottis Lock reelected State Senator, Everett H. Cain for District Attorney, R. A Richardson and Herman Reynolds for County Attorney, I. W. Sug Gordon for Constable, W. L. Doc Selman for District Clerk 75th and 88th, and Jack A. Lloyd for Justice of the Peace Precinct 2.
The State Health Officer notes age is not fixed by years but by arterial condition and overall vitality. He cites preventable infections, diet and worry as factors and urges cheerful attitudes, adequate dressing, rest, light food and warmth to aid recovery in older patients.
Texas A and M poultry expert E. D. Parnell warns that heat makes chickens lazy and they seek cool drinking water. Keep water sources within reach and ensure ample supply. If birds avoid water due to taste or distance, egg production and meat yield drop.
The text argues that proper clothing, diet, exercise, and personal hygiene enable aging with dignity. With reasonable attention to these well defined principles, the elderly can retain faculties and often enjoy old age as a pleasure rather than a burden.
