Six Major Accidents Reported by DPS Injuring Eleven
DPS records six crashes over Dec 24 28 involving 12 vehicles and a train. In the worst wreck a two car head on collision near Beaumont left five Silsbee youths and one Beaumont man injured. three others from the Hermansen car released after treatment. Additional crashes near Silsbee and on Village Creek Bridge left two drivers uninjured and one other rider injured.

Man Died in Christmas Shooting in Evadale
Ben W. Bruce Jr. 30, operator of Bruce Fish Market in Evadale, was shot in the chest with a 12 gauge shotgun at the Darwin home on FM 1131 near Evadale about 2:30 p.m. on Christmas Day. Albert Darwin, 64, a merchant seaman, was charged with murder and jailed on $5,000 bond. Mrs. Vada Bruce, the widow, was the sole witness. The shooting appeared to follow an argument. Darwin asked neighbors to call the sheriff.

Silsbee council and firemen clash over department problems
A three hour session Tuesday night between Silsbee City Council the Fire Commission Fire Chief John Busby and volunteer firefighters ended with no action. Busby disclosed only one operable truck remains and Houston repairs delay truck No 2 while old No 3 has starting issues. Hickerson noted four trucks exist but only one usable. he said Houston repairs should finish by Friday January 2 and new truck equipment was bid at the Dec 23 meeting.

Eight year old Silsbee girl Kimmerman Dodd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Dodd of 404 South 14th, received second degree burns over 12 percent of her body when clothing ignited from firecrackers on Friday December 26. Patrolman Lamar Y Barbo said she was shooting firecrackers before noon and was treated at Silsbee Doctors Hospital and released.
