Gasoline rationing proposal eyed by lawmakers
Senator Hugh Scott asks for printed analysis of a gasoline rationing plan. The system would allot 386 gallons per driver monthly via coupons, tradable and redeemable at controlled prices. Commercial users receive 90 percent of 1973 consumption. 3% is set aside for hardship. Coupons picked up in person, invalid at pump, and resale markets set the price. Critics say it neither boosts supply nor energy independence. Crump's Grass Roots Comment urges support for independent drillers and notes lawmakers may not ride buses to work under rationing.
