The Silsbee school panel moves into planning, evaluating whether to adopt a three or four year high school, an intermediate or junior high structure, and estimating required classroom numbers for a 1970 needs assessment.
Local physician Dr George Tennison will be installed as president of the Silsbee Kiwanis Club at a 7 p m January 9 1964 ceremony at the Blue Bonnet Cafe with Oscar Ryall of Beaumont installing officers Weeks Crawford serves as outgoing president and new officers include Lester Landgraf J C Perkins and Carl Paramore Directors named Jack Hedge J C Meyers Victor Norvel Clarence Dehart W T Wright Travis Votan and Jack Redmond.
Camp Fire Girls and Blue Birds boosted the Christmas toy drive with several hundred toys donated and organized by local groups. Allen Warrick praised area cooperation as the drive ended last weekend and toys will be distributed December 23 at the old Crockett Feed Store with baskets also issued to approved families.
The Silsbee Bee presents its biggest Christmas issue with many merchant greetings and gift ideas. The editor urges readers to remember the less fortunate, consider donations to the Christmas Basket Fund, and share compassion and love during the season.

Silsbee businesses will close for Christmas Week with many shutting on December 25 26 and 27. City Cleaners Jeffrey s Cleaners Britton Cravens Buck Jones Apache Lumber and Tem pleton optometrist announce partial or full day closures. School district breaks from December 19 to January 2. The Bee will close December 25 26 and 27.
The Tiger Rag, Silsbee High School's student newspaper, earned top honors in the Texas High School Press Association contest. Editor Miss Jean Poshataske and faculty sponsor Howard Perkins led the staff, with a certificate noting superior achievement among peers.
Dave Rountree reports 19 people jailed this week in Hardin County. Among them are three youths for statutory rape of a 14 year old, four for misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, one for felony DWI, one for carrying a pistol, two for being drunk in a car, one for forgery and theft, and six for drunkenness and disorderly conduct. Local and state officers will work around the clock during the holiday season to curb excess traffic. Citizens urged to obey traffic laws and report lawbreakers.
Hello World Mr and Mrs Charles Wayne English of Silsbee welcomed a daughter born December 14 at St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Mr and Mrs Norman Crowdray of Silsbee welcomed Rhonda Renee born December 13 at St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Sr. Jose Victor Villarreal and son Saul plus Armando Martinez of Piedras Negras Coach Mexico toured East Texas Paper Mill in Evadale and stayed over the weekend with Mr and Mrs Tom Tennison Jr marking a cross border business visit.
Four defendants appeared before Judge Fletcher Richardson in county court last week. James Brown of Houston was fined 100 dollars plus costs for carrying a pistol. John L. Seis of Kountze received a 60 day jail term plus costs for theft. Audry Smith and H. C. Ferguson of Silsbee were each fined one dollar and costs on separate theft charges. All pled guilty.
A R Hardison announced his candidacy for the unexpired term of Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5 in the Democratic primaries. He currently holds the office, appointed two years ago by the Hardin County Commissioners Court after Elmer McLaughlin’s resignation. He has lived in Silsbee ten years and works for Kirby Lumber.
Derby Lee Jones 64 a former Silsbee Police Dispatcher died at John Sealy Hospital Galveston after ten days illness. Services set for Franks Branch Church near Silsbee with Rev W W Knapp officiating. Burial in Franks Branch Cemetery with Farmer Funeral Home directing. He survived by wife Fannie and three sons Charles Le Thomas Robert, two daughters Carrie and Aline plus siblings and extended family.
Edward Philips announces no driver tests on December 27 and says he will return to his regular post the following week.
Tiger cagers rest for the holidays with a Port Arthur tournament set for Dec 26 27 and 28. Buna starts the three day slate while prior West Orange finish left Silsbee fourth. Beilenger led with 12 in the Forest Park win and Parks matched double digits in both Orange and Deweyville games. Silsbee then fell to Port Neches in a 61-47 setback as Gerald Walker and Punky Parks paced the scoring.
Mrs. C H Sullivan a former Silsbee resident died suddenly at her Harlingen home early Wednesday morning. A Silsbee High School graduate and longtime public school teacher she was widowed since World War II era. Survived by husband and three daughters final funeral plans unavailable.
Miss Carol McWhorter of Silsbee is named to Lamar Tech Cap and Gown, one of four seniors chosen for the women’s honor society. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. V. McWhorter, she majors in elementary education. The group raises membership to 24 with seniors, from a quota of 126.
The Silsbee Public Library will be closed December 24 25 and 26 according to Mrs J L Sims. Mr and Mrs Will Smart of Cahone Colorado visited friends and relatives here Tuesday.
