Chance Loeb Trustees Suspend Supt L J Garner

Chance Loeb Consolidated Independent School District trustees suspend superintendent L J Garner on December 8 with termination set for January 31 1967. The four to three vote followed a deadlock, with James D Lowry and W A Theriot supporting the motion and W O Worry J T Williams and D L Pool opposing. Garner had been superintendent since February 1960 and his contract expires July 1 1967. The district has faced rapid enrollment and facilities strain, including a $750 000 bond issue for a new high school and other needs after failed prior proposals. The board’s action accuses Garner of misfeasance and failing to adequately communicate with the board and staff. Acting superintendent was named M L Pipkin through Jan 31 1967.
