Ramsey Named Railroad Commissioner in Texas Politics
Ben Ramsey’s appointment to the Railroad Commission shifts Texas politics. He will not likely seek the governorship, opening the lieutenant governor race for 1962 with several contenders. Reagan, elected President Pro Tempore, leads the succession as Ramsey serves the unexpired term through January 1963. The commission regulates oil and gas as well as freight rates statewide, while Daniel plans another special session on banking, annexation, and delinquency laws before year-end.
