New USS Texas christened by First Lady at Newport News
The nuclear powered cruiser USS Texas, fourth to bear the name, was launched at Newport News with Janey Briscoe christening the ship amid cheers. Gov. Dolph Briscoe praised the vessel as Texas’s proud naval tradition, while spectators, veterans, and sailors shared emotional pride as champagne sprayed across the bow.
