Dismissals For DWI Outnumber Convictions In Hardin County
Hardin County in 1976 reported 232 dismissals and 60 guilty pleas for driving while intoxicated, a four to one ratio second only to Jack County. County Judge Emmett Lack cites case handling, plea bargains, and compassion as reasons for the high dismissal rate, with minimal repeat offenders reducing harsh punishment. The change in county attorney at year end and a heavy judge's workload also contribute to fewer convictions.
