Gov. Connally and Atty. Gen. Carr push reforms after a UT campus sniper killing, a Rosebud night watchman murder, and a Fort Worth slaying. Proposals include compulsory life for murder with insanity verdicts, tougher violence and sex crime penalties, and public-armed carry clarifications. A blue ribbon committee is to draft tougher laws while firearms restrictions are opposed.
County committeemen for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Services in Hardin County will be elected by eligible voters in a mail election on Sept. 7. A slate of nominees selected by the present county committee will be released by the committee Monday. Eligible voters may submit by petition names of nominees for consideration.
A group from the Evergreen Assembly of God Church in CA toured Hodges Gardens near Many Louisiana on Saturday. The visitors included Rev and Mrs F C Drake Mr and Mrs George Doyen Debra and Gilbert Johnston and Fran Calloway. On Sunday Mr and Mrs Monroe I Frazier of Silsbee joined the garden visit.

Robert Jackson recently completed basic training at Fort Polk Louisiana and is home in Votaw for a 10 day leave. A 1966 graduate of West Hardin High School he is visiting his parents Mr and Mrs Earl Jackson before returning to duty in Aberdeen Maryland.

Rev Frank R Pool pastor of Sunny Acres Baptist Church will lead a revival from August 21 to 28 with nightly services at 730 p m The church lies two miles north of Silsbee on Hicks Road Pool a Buna native and East Texas Baptist College graduate has studied at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary before taking the Sunny Acres pastorate.
The Lige Walters family reunion will be held Sunday August 21 at Franks Branch Church at Fred. Relatives and friends are invited. A basket lunch will be served at noon.

Old and new members of the Silsbee High School Chapter of the Teen Age Library Association may come to the school next week from 11:00 to 3:00 to earn their four hours work credit required for membership and state TALA pin. Miss Mary Snyder, sponsor of the club and Silsbee High librarian, made this announcement. New books are arriving daily and are being processed in the air conditioned faculty lounge.
