Carolyn Baker, daughter of Mr and Mrs C R Baker, is valedictorian with a 97.89 four year average at Silsbee High. Donna Holmes is salutatorian at 97.41, Elizabeth Wilson has 97.33, and Mike McMahon leads the boys with 96.51. Commencement is Monday May 25 in Kirby Stadium weather permitting with an all student program. Rev Grant Herbst will give the baccalaureate on Sunday May 24.

In week four, the Silsbee Latter Day Saints hold a 4 0 edge over First Baptist Blues and First Baptist Gold at 3 1 in the church volleyball standings. Tuesday results saw the Saints defeat Presbyterians while Blues and Golds posted wins. Standings show St John s Episcopal and First Methodist at 2 2 and Woodrow Baptist at 0 4. Games are played in the high school gym on Tuesday nights.

Miller-Dunbar Chevrolet of Silsbee was the low bidder with bids after trade totaling 1227 for the wagon and 1387.37 for the truck. County Attorney Farl Stover discussed right of way generality with the court and noted correspondence with the state highway department about summoning witnesses in condemnation suits.

Two Juveniles Arrested After Store Is Pilfered
Police recovered liquor and cigarettes stolen from Langhammer's Package store on Highway 965 after a witness chased one suspect. The youths, ages 17 and 14, entered through a north window. the younger was returned to parents while the 17 year old remained jailed in Kountze awaiting bond.

Silsbee won two fourth places in the regional track meet held in Beaumont last week. Larry Wilson placed fourth in shot put with a throw of 44 ft 8 in. In the mile run, Sophomore Richard Ratliff ran a 4.55 mile to finish fourth. John Hartman and Rickey Goodman, who ran first and second in the district meet, finished fifth and sixth in the 880 yard run.

Benjamin Franklin Smith of Silsbee, 10, is held in Jardin county jail on $15,000 bond for statutory rape. A shooting in Silsbee left Mabel Sells with a shoulder wound while George Moore, a Silsbee man, faces assault with intent to murder. Total arrests last week stood at 22 with several other charges including drunkenness.
