Walleye Stocking Marks Steinhagen Lake Experiment
Two million walleye fry were released into Steinhagen Lake in Southeast Texas on Sunday April 11 by Texas Parks and Wildlife fisheries staff. An aircraft from Hays Kansas transported the stock, obtained from the Kansas Forestry Fish and Game Commission, in plastic water-fill cups. The project aims to test if walleye can establish a viable population in the reservoir despite turbid, vegetation-rich conditions. If successful, fish may reach 12 to 14 pounds as adults within years.
