Citywide 25 Percent Increase Sets Silsbee Fees and Taxes

The Silsbee city council approved a uniform 25 percent rise in city services and taxes effective July 1 1957. Water sewer and garbage rates, plus the tax rate from 1.00 to 1.25 per 100 valuation, reflect funds for a 675000 bond plan and about 350000 extra revenue bonds. New water storage and a sewer disposal plant are planned for annexed areas including Roosevelt Drive and East Silsbee. City Manager Bill Pennington outlined two plans to finance improvements, with engineers’ estimates guiding the needed increases. The council backed the plan despite higher prices, to enable city progress.
