New Council Gets Off At Fast Pace Tuesday
Silsbee's new city council led by Mayor Frank L McClanahan began its first regular session Tuesday night. The two hour meeting covered a crowded agenda including election of a mayor pro tempore and planning commission appointments. A special session was set for next Thursday to study the budget and discuss water line expansion to Woodlea. Lenox Hawthorne was elected mayor pro tempore succeeding Dr R O Jackson, who remains on the Library Advisory Board. Council also named J C Busby assistant fire marshal and discussed fire insurance rate reductions. The council approved a utilities easement from J D Die and retained the existing city insurance contract. A proposed eight inch water line from Ave L to Winters street to connect with Woodlea was tabled for Thursday. The police private line, telephone arrangements, and police car replacement were debated, with a plan to shift the new car to the police department upon delivery and defer the manager’s expense increase until the budget study.
