John Henry Eskew longtime Scott County resident died Monday in a St. Louis hospital after two weeks there He was born December 15 1852 in Warren County Kentucky He came to Missouri in 1901 lived at Blodgett Zuing farming until 1933 then moved to Sikeston and remained there He was a Baptist member He married Minnie Ada Sams September 10 1918 who survives Also surviving are their son John Eskew and six daughters in St Louis Long Beach California Belleville Illinois Sikeston and others plus a stepson a sister two half sisters a brother and two half brothers There are five grandchildren

Weekend Patrol Area Count Reveals 10 Accidents Reported
The Troop E patrol area logged 10 accidents over the weekend with 70 fatalities and 11 injuries statewide for the period. Several injured remained in Pemiscot Aflem- Orta Hospital at Havti. the month totals reached 45 fatalities and 661 for the year 2026. The most serious crash occurred at 6 50 a m Sunday two miles north of Har i on Highway 61 involving Lou Jeffries of Havii and Ce cil Whitsel, a southbound truck driver, with multiple vehicles sustaining injuries including Mary and Nathan Bedford, Enis Stapleton, and Gerald Rupert. Beatrice Woods and Richard Hodge were involved in another collision near Charleston with minor injuries. Larry Jeffries suffered possible head and chest injuries after leaving the road near Marston. Kiwanis Civic meeting at Dunn Hotel elected John Donoho as president, with Bob Summers and Gene Nunnelee as vice presidents and four board members named. Blackwelder charged with careless and reckless driving, bond set at 15 dollars. Flora Bud Brooks 53, farmer from Matthews community, died Tuesday at the Missouri Sanatorium for tubercular patients in Mount Vernon after new illness. He was born Sept 12, 1904 near Matthews. survived by two brothers and four sisters with home ties to Sikeston, Portageville, Matthews and the family home. Funeral arrangements pending as of early Wednesday. book delivery expected to reach Brooks home soon.

Hager will deliver the response. Aiis Gaylord, widow of the late Gen. Gasford, will attend as guest of honor. The facility honors a $50,000 bequest to aid Missouri wildlife study, funded by Ducks Unlimited and supported by the Conservation Commission.

Former Texas Man Dies at Vanduser
Levi Franklin Thomason a former Texas resident and longtime Vanduser resident died at his home there last Friday after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Monday at the Church of God in Vanduser with Rev. Leslie Beck and Rev. H. B. Hunter officiating. Burial followed in Forest Hill Memorial Gardens. Thomason was born July 4, 1891, in Sedan Kansas, and spent most of his life in the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas where his parents were pioneer residents and farmers. He later moved to Scott County, residing in Vanduser.
