Southeast Missouri Football Conference Meet Scheduled Saturday
The Southeast Missouri Football Conference plans its annual meeting at 10 am Saturday Sept 15 in Sikeston with superintendents principals and coaches from member schools Perryville Jackson Poplar Bluff Charleston Sikeston Dexter Chaffee East Prairie Hayti Caruthersville and Kennett in attendance. President Russell Hawkins of Jackson will lead the session which will set the 1946 47 schedule and sports regulations. Lunch will follow at the Dunn Hotel.

The government made all cheese ration free on Tuesday and cut the point value of all varieties to zero effective 12:01 yesterday. Officials discussed possible early end to meat rationing. Manufacturing restrictions on foreign type cheese were lifted and the 40 percent Government-set aside of cheddar output for September was removed. H. T. Police Chief Plans to Train School Patrols in Sikeston
Police Chief Harold Wallace says school boy patrols will be trained soon to direct pedestrian traffic at intersections near Sikeston’s schools. He will remain on duty daily at South Grade School to supervise crossings on Highway 60 as he continues efforts to curb speeding and reckless driving with broad local support.

Mrs Hulda Bean Watkins lifelong Sikeston resident died at her daughter Mrs John Edwards home on Maplewood Drive after a week of pneumonia. Funeral services to be held after arrival of another daughter Mrs George Davis from Tallahassee. Born September 10 1915 in Richwoods north of Sikeston she was predeceased by husband W H Watkins. Survived by daughter Edwards, daughter Davis, son Pfc William Watkins serving in Germany, sisters Mrs Frank Merritt and Mrs James Porter, and brother James Bean in Arkansas.

Bronze Star awarded to Sikeston soldier
Private Keifer Evans, son of Mrs. Bessie E. Evans of 635 East Gladys Street, Sikeston, received the Bronze Star from Maj. Gen. C. E. Hurdis of the Sixth Infantry Division for heroism on Luzon near the Novaliches Watershed on April 11. Evans moved under heavy fire to clear a roadblock hindering self-propelled artillery, enabling the guns to support the assault elements. The division, after 219 days of combat, was mopping up Japanese resistance in the Cordillera Mountains of northern Luzon when the award citation was issued.
