Child Run Over On Sikeston High Field Recovers
Two year old Jo Ellen Standley daughter of Mr and Mrs L M Standley is rapidly recovering at home from injuries after a 1940 Plymouth driven by Mrs B B Schade ran off Woodlawn Street and through a field fence at Sikeston high school, striking the child near the 35 yard line. The car rolled over her but did not crush her, and she received contusions, a facial laceration, burns and other bruises with no broken bones. Mrs Schade fainted and was treated for minor injuries and shock. The event was witnessed by students and teachers, and the car halted on a dirt pile near the swimming pool under construction. Damage to the car was about 50 dollars.

New Elevator at Scott County Milling Nears Height Milestone
About 50 workers finished pouring the main floor of the $100,000 elevator at Scott County Milling on Highway 60. With the 50 by 110 foot floor in place and a 17 foot headhouse basement, construction pauses until November 11 to lay slip forms and raise walls, aiming for completion the first week of December and operation by year’s start. The unit adds 330,000 bushels of storage.

Woman Dies of Heart Attack in Sikeston Home
Mrs. Jess Poyner a 43 year old Sikeston woman died at her home on 112 Trotter street Tuesday evening after an acute coronary thrombosis. She collapsed after dinner and died at 7 pm despite Dr. G W Presnells efforts. Surviving are husband Jess Poyner and 12 year old daughter Frances. The body was taken to Greenway Arkansas for burial.

Man Killed in Traffic Tangle
Charles Kirkpatrick, 35, a farmer near Matthews, died after jumping from a moving truck at Highway 61 Matthews lane intersection Monday night. He died at Sikeston General Hospital from skull and limb fractures. The incident left two trucks lightly damaged with no other injuries. Kirkpatrick had lived in Matthews a year aiding cotton land management. funeral held in Saltillo, Mississippi.

Weather promises showers for Southeast Missouri
The weather man forecasts showers and thunderstorms for the Southeast Missouri region. After three weeks of skies held warm and dry, residents hope for rain amid unseasonable warmth. Last week’s high reached 88 degrees, set on Sunday, with a low around 40 degrees noted yesterday.
Third Hangar For Air School At Missouri Institute
Construction of a third all metal hangar and a new dormitory for 72 cadets is planned at the Missouri Institute of Aeronautics. The facility will hold 216 cadets total and includes a second auxiliary field nearby, with two hangars and barracks already in use. The current hangar is due for completion by November 15 and the school now houses 53 training planes.

Former Sikeston Residents Injured In Accident
Robert Poage age 38 and his wife were injured yesterday afternoon when their 1910 Studebaker overturned on Highway 55 south of Charleston after a tire blew. They were treated at Southeast Missouri Hospital Cape Girardeau for back injuries broken ribs and cuts. Poage is a salesman for Midland Plumbing Supply Co and E E Southern Iron Co both based in St Louis and now reside in Charleston.
