Sikeston residents faced a chilly spell this week with a low near 34 degrees the season's coldest so far. The high reached 83 degrees on Sunday. Meteorologist Albert Klamm of the Missouri Institute of Aeronautics predicts light rain today and tomorrow with temperatures from 40 to 60 degrees.

Loomis Mayfield Jr., a Missouri University student, is hospitalized with minor injuries after a Tuesday wreck near Columbia when his convertible skidded onto the mud shoulder and overturned. Passenger Bob Wooley suffered a concussion and remained unconscious at last report. Mayfield and his mother were en route home with his nephew Jean Klein. the car belonged to Mr Bates of Columbia and was a total loss.

Half Million Cotton Sale Shocks Southeast Missouri
Harris N. Draughon, local cotton broker, announces a record sale of 5000 bales of cotton to an eastern tire company representative for about half a million dollars. The Roberts-Davis Cotton Company of Matthews sold the lot, with the buyer flying from New York to Memphis then to Sikeston to close the deal. State Trooper John Tandy seeks the mules owner after two animals wandered Highway 61 ten miles north of Sikeston and were struck by a Plymouth sedan driven by Robert Lee Wiegand of St. Louis. Postal Clerk Retires Tomorrow in Sikeston
John F. Wood will retire from the United States Post Office Department tomorrow night becoming the first Sikeston man to reach the designated age and retirement. Wood began work November 15, 1912 and made Sikeston's first mail delivery. He is now money order clerk and will be succeeded by Harry Young.Changes also place L. J. Langley and Frank Dye inside the post office as clerks with Clyde Long and Roy Wagner filling carrier roles.
