New Lunchroom Gets Equipment After Seven Day Run
The central kitchen at South grade school served 1623 lunches to underprivileged children in seven days. Mrs Harry Dover reported the activity since November 5 at a lunchroom project committee meeting chaired by LM Standley. Purchases approved include an ice box, window screens, six dishpans, measuring cups, a large food chopper, scales, sauce dishes, mops, a slaw cutter, a wash board, and a milling table. A large table and cabinet were ordered for the Negro school. Menu items included pinto beans, slaw, corn bread, fruit, milk and weekly chocolate milk on Fridays. A $100 Civil Aeronautics Board grant and $110 from Missouri Institute of Aeronautics cadets supported the effort.

Veteran Sikeston Lawyer Mile Gresham Dies Sudden
Mile Green Gresham well known Sikeston attorney and former city official died suddenly last Sunday morning after heart attacks. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the family home with Rev E W D Bartley officiating. Interment in Sikeston city cemetery. Survived by wife Emma Whitesides and eight children, two daughters, one brother Joshua Gresham, and seven grandchildren. Born April 18, 1867, he taught in Illinois before moving to Missouri and opening a jewelry store and barber shop. He later read law, joined the Missouri bar, and served as city attorney, city collector, and city clerk of Sikeston. He also was secretary of Hospital No 1’s Board of Managers at Farmington.

Holiday furlough for Air School cadets
Aviation cadets at the Missouri Institute of Aeronautics began a furlough last night extending through Sunday. Cadets are scattered, with most going home for the holiday. Forty cadets are being entertained today in Cape Girardeau and will attend the Carbondale football game at Houck Stadium. The local air school will be nearly deserted as Army, civilian, and other instructors take holiday leave.

Sikeston Cotton Ginnings Forecast and Census Total
Favorable weather in Sikeston may finish cotton ginning in two weeks but stormy skies threaten. Local ginners expect around 80 to free bales left to gin this season as prices hold at 11 cents for picked cotton and 12 cents for bellies. Cotton seed stands at 35 dollars per ton. Three Sikeston gins together will likely total about 10,000 bales for the season. In Scott County the 1941 crop ginning reached 19,016 bales by November 1, compared with 9,194 bales in 1940, per Tharon E Stallings, Census Bureau special agent.
