The Maritime Commission announces three Liberty ships under construction will be named for recently deceased U S political figures George W Norris Alfred E Smith and Wendall L Willkie The wartime report also notes Allied naval gains in the Pacific and other world events including Dill's Arlington burial and plans for a Missouri constitutional adoption mass meeting December 5.

Missouri elects Donnell only Republican victor in landslide
Governor Donnell led a Republican showing in Missouri after a Democratic wave. He edged Roy McKittrick and Senator Phil Donnelly won the governor’s race by about 15,000 votes as Roosevelt carried Missouri by 33,666 votes. Mrs T A Martin leader of Troop One Girl Scouts and Woman's Club chair for promoting the program attended the Regional Institute and Training School in Cape Girardeau last Friday and Saturday. The event, run by National staff, connected Southeast Missouri promoters of Girl Scouting. Another institute will be in Poplar Bluff in January with a National staff member. Zimmer man Reelected to Sixth Term in Congress from 10th District
Congressman Orville Zimmer man of Kennett was reelected Tuesday to a sixth consecutive term from the 10th District, which includes Scott, Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Butler, Dunklin, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Ripley and Stoddard counties. He led in 261 of 267 precincts by 11,347 votes, totaling 50,907 to 39,660 for Ralph Hutchison. Dunklin and Scott counties gave Zimmerman large margins, while Hutchison won in Boll Anger.
