Special Election For City Limits Near Airport Addition
The City Council voted to hold a special election on June 14 to decide adding the Airport addition to city limits. J O Knupp urged the move citing lower insurance on airport property. Plans extend city lines along Highway 60 to St Johns ditch and back to current limits, including airport property and Highway 60 area. The council also approved an annual contract for pool management with the Junior Chamber of Commerce and paving projects for Coleman, Laura, Branum, Clayton, Sikes, College, and Agnes streets, plus a Maple Street paving plan. A parking ordinance on Highway 61 was approved, and a Chamber complaint about incomplete garbage service prompted a proposed monthly fee if funds don’t allow full coverage.

City Council Orders Rabies Vaccination and Licenses for Dogs
Sikeston city council directed City Attorney Kirk to draft an ordinance requiring all city dogs to be licensed and vaccinated against rabies before licensing. Army relaxes enlistment rules for men with dependents
The Army will allow re enlistment for men with dependents if they are qualified for grade 4 or higher, per a Washington telegram cited by Major Lyle S. Daugherty of the St. Louis Recruiting Station. Ernest Chessman 28 of Miner was jailed five years after pleading guilty to forging and cashing a 41.10 check drawn on Creil C Boyer of Sikeston. He was arrested in New Madrid in March and sentenced by Scott County Circuit Court at Benton. The case stems from a preliminary hearing where Boyer’s name was forged and used to cash the check.
