Henry J Welsh dies suddenly at 60 in Sikeston
Henry J. Welsh a Sikeston business man and former Scott county coroner died suddenly at his North Kings highway home from a heart attack. Born August 12 1882 in Hillsboro Missouri he came to Sikeston in 1908 and built a leading undertaking business. Funeral held at the Methodist church with interment in City cemetery.

Sikeston Man Killed in Illinois
Funeral services for James E. Ellis lifelong Sikeston resident were held at Welsh Funeral Home with Rev. E D Owen officiating. Ellis died from gunshot wounds in a tavern scuffle near DuQuoin Illinois after a Monday night quarrel with Lester Bell, who is jailed without bail awaiting grand jury action. Sikeston Radioman Receives Navy Citation for Valor
Gene D. Aldrich of Sikeston shared honors with two other Navy fliers in Pearl Harbor ceremonies on March 16 for extraordinary courage during the Marshall and Gilbert Islands attack. Haruld Dixon earned the Navy Cross, Anthony J. Pastula and Aldrich received citations after surviving 34 days on a life raft. Admiral Nimitz presented the awards. the raft becomes a permanent exhibit in Annapolis.

Giant tri motor bomber spotted over Sikeston on Tuesday
A large tri motored bomber flew low above Sikeston at noon Tuesday while en route east. The aircraft did not land and was observed by residents. Nearby, Lloyd Ebby was moved from the Cairo hospital to his LaForge home last Saturday in the Buchanan ambulance.

First Outside Drill for Home Guard in Sikeston
The Sikeston Missouri Home Guard unit under Capt. Loomis Mayfield will hold its first outside drill at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 29. Members meet at the Armory for a two mile hike followed by infantry drills rifle practice and bayonet formations using blank shells left by Company K National Guard now on active duty. Army style chow at 5 p.m. will be served at the Armory. The unit is fully outfitted and ready for duty in any weather.
