He recalls a 1939 Alps episode to illustrate shared effort, warns against wasteful government spending, and contrasts American enterprise with Soviet policy while stressing citizenship and daily good deeds.
Potashnick reported the Chamber of Commerce is pursuing a veterans' hospital for Southeast Missouri and weighing an airplane landing field for Sikeston. Co H Denman said an industrial survey of Scott county will be coordinated with the State Resources and Development Commission. Mr Ashcroft spoke, introduced by T A Martin, former Chamber president.
Argentine motorists bus drivers and trolley motormen faced a chaotic day as the city shifts traffic to the right after a 12 hour period of jams and near misses. Police calmly warned offenders while buses posed ongoing hazards and Uruguay plans a Sept. 1 switch.

The Treasury disclosed that 17,500,000 pairs of boots will be worn annually, costing about 112,000,900 dollars, as the Army plans to outfit all troops for the war to Tokyo. A commemorative stamp honoring the Marine Corps will be issued.
The Scott County War Finance Committee chairs urge every American worker and earner to invest heavily in War Bonds during the 7th War Loan Drive. Butler notes the individual quota is higher than prior drives, with Missouri’s bond quota at 101,000,000 and the national drive at seven billion dollars, of which four billion is in E bonds. He stresses converting bonds to cash in minutes, security of War Bonds, and that money invested funds wartime needs, including taxes and defense, while bonds accrue interest.
J. C. Runyon, son of Mr and Mrs Jay Runyon farmers near Salcedo, drowned Sunday afternoon in Little River drainage ditch while playing. His body was recovered two hours later by Clarence Cantrell Dale Barnett and Eugene Oates Jr. He was born September 7, 1983 in Manila Arkansas. Funeral services held Tuesday at Sikeston Baptist church with Rev EJ Owen officiating. Interment in Memorial Park cemetery.
Boy Scout Troop 41 will collect scrap paper for war salvage in Ward One on Friday morning June 14. Residents are urged to place paper in tied bundles on their front porches. Tin can collection for salvage will occur in Ward Three on Monday June 18, the third Monday of the month.
A wartime appeal urges citizens to support government supply of guns tanks and ammunition to aid advancing fighting men on every battlefront. The message stresses that providing materials now will shorten the conflict and save many lives.
