Short Life for Baby Ervin Leonard Davis
Ervin Leonard Davis, son of Mr and Mrs Exsin Davis of 613 Hart Street, died Sunday afternoon a few hours after birth at Delta Community Hospital. Graveside services were held Monday at Carpenter Cemetery near McMinnville conducted by Rev. R C Martin, with burial there. The Albritton Funeral Home handled arrangements. Surviving are the parents two brothers Donald and David two sisters Mary and Sharon all at home paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Dewey Davis of Sikeston and maternal grandfather Samuel Franklin of Colorado Springs Colorado.

Distributions cover cheese, flour, lard, eggs, canned pork and gravy, navy beans, powdered milk and rice. Eligibility excludes Old Age Assistance and other aid recipients. applicants must bring cartons. If conditions do not improve, a July distribution is planned. Local agents report worsened crop prospects across the region due to recent rains and flooding, delaying field work and threatening cotton and wheat yields.

Mrs M C Mill Dies Sudden in Sikeston Park Ave Home
Mrs M C Mill a longtime Sikeston civic leader died suddenly at 832 Park Avenue Thursday morning from a coronary thrombosis. Funeral services were held at First Methodist Church with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery. She was born in 1882 at Cushing Iowa and moved through several states with her family before settling in Sikeston. She taught in Sunday school, led church women’s groups, and belonged to local clubs. Surviving are her husband Dr M C Mill three children and three grandchildren.

Grover Lewis of Sikeston died suddenly from a heart ailment Tuesday at his home 116 South Ranney. Born June 16 1855 in Stewart County Tennessee he moved to Missouri in 1918 and later settled in Sikeston. He was a deacon and longtime Mason and Odd Fellows member. funeral services set for Thursday at First Baptist Church with interment at Garden of Memories.

Big turnout for driver tests at Armory
A large morning and afternoon turnout at the Armory yielded 49 participants for driver tests. Of these, 29 passed, 19 failed, and one test was incomplete. Failures split with 10 on written law, 7 on road, and 2 on road signs. 25 new drivers, 4 from out of state, 20 with expired licenses. Passing operators licenses included Warne Eldon Cnasteen and many others listed by town and name. one person, Dorothy Dovers, passed the chauffeurs license test. One instruction permit was issued to Jimmy Delmar Stacy.

City Council Hikes Missouri Utilities Co License Fee
At the regular meeting the City Council voted to set Missouri Utilities Co license fee at 5 percent of gross annual revenue, replacing the prior flat 750 per year. The first payment under the new ordinance would be due July 1958, and the city noted the old fee and payments were inconsistent with other utilities. The council also approved parking restrictions on Greer Street and near the swimming pool, authorized sewer and paving projects on Center Street, and allocation of funds for highway widening costs.

Emma Limary Marshall aged 67 died Monday afternoon at Shuffit Nursing Home in Sikeston where she had been a patient for three months. She was born near Blodgett in 1870, married William C Marshall in 1885, and lived in Scott County most of her life. Survived by three children Alma Cope J W Marsh and Raymond C Marshall, a granddaughter and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services held at Blodgett Baptist church with Nunnelee Funeral Home arrangements.

Willis Lawson of Morehouse died Monday at the Veterans Hospital in Poplar Bluff where he had been a patient the past nine days. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 pm in the General Baptist church in Morehouse with interment in Matthews Cemetery. He was born November 25, 1896 in White County, Illinois, and lived 29 years in Morehouse. Survivors include a son Marvin Lawson of St. Louis and two daughters Mrs Anna May England and Mrs Helen Basinger of St. Louis, along with a sister, a half sister, several brothers and stepfamily.
