Dean Herbert W. Mumford of the University of Illinois College of Agriculture died Tuesday from pneumonia after injuries in an automobile accident on May 14. Dexter Farmer Killed When Struck by Truck
P. E. Daniels a 56 year old Dexter farmer living west of town was fatally injured Sunday morning after being struck by a large truck on Highway 60 near Poplar Bluff. A second truck collided with the first, causing the driver to lose control and Daniels body was hurled several feet and the vehicle overturned. He died shortly after at Brandon Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday at First Baptist Dexter with burial in Dexter cemetery.

City to buy Peoples Bank building in Sikeston
The City of Sikeston plans to purchase the former Peoples Bank building from owner C. E. Felker for thirteen thousand dollars. A loan of six percent interest has been negotiated for the amount. Felker bought the building from the liquidator of Peoples Bank on March 26, 1934, for eight thousand six hundred dollars, with a loan of five thousand dollars held by a local citizen.

Poppy Sale Saturday Nets Record Receipts
The poppy sale conducted by the American Legion Auxiliary on Saturday raised 93.13 dollars, a record for Poppy Day. Over 900 poppies were sold. Elizabeth Wagner earned a one dollar prize with 15.65 dollars in sales, and Jimmy Rabb earned a similar prize with 8.70 dollars. Funds go to veterans rehabilitation projects.

Blytheville Man Arrested in Chicken Theft Case
Frank James of Blytheville Arkansas was jailed in Benton after waiving preliminary hearing on a chicken theft charge. He will await circuit court trial. Police say he admitted stealing fowl from near Sikeston while attempting to sell them. An alleged accomplice fled and remains at large.

Local Trucker Injured In Sand Trucking Incident
W. F. Smith, a local trucker, sustained a painful head injury early this morning while unloading sand at the new telephone building site on Center Street. He built a makeshift bridge from the railing, which slipped, causing a fall that cut his forehead. Dr. H. M. Kendig treated him and he was later driven home by Henry Welsh. His condition is described as satisfactory.

St Louisans Hurt As Car Overturns Near Sikeston
Three St Louis residents were injured when their 1937 Dodge sedan overturned three times on Highway 61 south of Sikeston while en route home from Hot Springs Arkansas. Mrs Anna Rossin suffered a fractured right shoulder blade. daughter Sylvia and brother Ben Caplan had bruises and cuts. They were treated locally and transported to St Louis by ambulance after care by Dr M G Anderson.
Car and Truck Crash Near Frisco Rail Crossing
A sedan and a lumber filled truck collided near the Frisco railroad crossing on Highway 60 at 10 this morning. The eastbound truck driven by Harry Gallison of Freemont Mo. carried 2400 feet of year-old dry lumber and tried to avoid a westbound car driven by Joe Kirby of Vanclyser. Minor injuries were reported for both drivers and passengers including Mrs Ruth Rodgers, her six year old son Warren and a baby, all from Vanclyser and Bell City. Damages were estimated near two hundred dollars for both vehicles. Gallison was en route to Rolla Johnson of Freemont and Brice Flooring Plant in Cairo Tl.
