Frank Alexiou Dies of War Wounds in Luzon
Sgt Frank Alexiou a former Sikeston resident died on Luzon Island July 1 from injuries in a vehicle accident. The War Department notified his wife Mildred Hufstedler of Sikeston. A 35 year old registered nurse, Mrs Alexiou works at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He had been connected with several Sikeston restaurants before joining the armed services in August 1942. He had been overseas since last year.

Yenson Is Named New Treasury Head
Tall rugged Fred M. Vinson of Kentucky, director of War Mobilization, will be the next Secretary of the Treasury. He will succeed Henry Morgenthau, who resigned Friday as President Truman plans a Berlin trip after the Big Three meet. Vinson, 55, brings vast government experience across legislative, judicial, and executive branches and is famed as a tax authority. He chaired the Ways and Means Tax Subcommittee and fought to pass tax bills. He has served 14 years in the House and was an associate justice on the D C Court of Appeals in 1938.

Bluff Wins Round in Fight With OPA Agents
Health Engineer Claude E Murray and the City of Poplar Bluff won their dispute with the Office of Price Administration this week when OPA inspectors halted their practice of opening bundles of meat in frozen food lockers. Murray condemned about 400 pounds of meat and demanded health cards for food handlers. Murray and Police Chief John Sims will appear before United States District Judge Rubey Hulen in St Louis to show cause why they should not be cited for contempt of court. OPA enforcement attorney George L Robertson said the inquiry is far from over.
