X-Ray Re-check Begins In Scott County Today
The State Health Department and Scott County Health Council begin a weekend re check of chest X rays for tuberculosis. Two units in the county re photograph and review those with positive or unclear results from the original June screenings. About 9,981 residents aged 15 and older had X rays during the initial drive.

St Louis Woman Fatally Injured in Traffic Crash
Mrs. Wm. Eastwood of St. Louis died after a Friday afternoon collision on Highway 25 near Old Appleton while en route to Chaffee to visit her mother in law Mrs. W. W. Eastwood. Her husband suffered bruises to his arms and legs in the crash.

Last Rites for Leonard Burgess Sunday Afternoon
Funeral services for Coxswain Leonard I. Burgess will be at Welsh Funeral Home in Sikeston on Sunday at 1 30 PM with Rev. E D Owen in charge. Burial at Carpenter Cemetery near McMullin with Sikeston VFW providing military rites and pallbearers. Burgess, who died in the South Pacific on November 10 1944, was born June 4 1923 in Calico Rock Arkansas and served in the Navy since 1941. he is survived by his father three brothers and one sister.

Furniture Fire Damages Fox Furniture Stock worth 13000
Furniture stock valued at 13000 housed in a warehouse of Fox Furniture Store Inc of Morehouse was damaged by a fire Tuesday morning. Fire started from wiring and water damage affected the furniture and building. The stock belonged to Harrison Fox and Herbert Fox. building owned by Ben Harris of Sikeston. Insurance likely covers losses. Several service members and local residents were noted in the report.

Wharton, 58, of near Oran is jailed in Scott county on murder in the first degree charges after his mother in law Mrs. Mary Jones 71 died from head wounds from a blunt instrument following an attack July 4. Coroner's inquest at Ha mans Funeral Home Cape Girardeau returned a verdict of death from blows. Wharton arraigned in Benton magistrate court denying the hammer attack. Preliminary hearing date not set.

The Extension Service of Missouri University's College of Agriculture sponsors Miss Marjorie Momyer of Stephens College to tour the state with a series on child training. She has studied child development with kindergarten and nursery schools in Iowa New York and Missouri where she chaired Stephens College Child Study Department in Columbia. Scott and Mississippi counties plan a joint meeting in Charleston with time and date to be announced. The program runs through June July and August assisting rural parents with child training.
