Seventeen Die In Memphis Area Airliner Crash
Seventeen people perished when an American Airlines Southerner en route from New York to Los Angeles crashed in a swamp near Goodwin Arkansas, 25 minutes from Memphis. The dead include 12 men 4 women and one child with pilots Gerald V. Marshall and Glenn Freeman and stewardess Perla Gasparina among the crew. Recovery stretched over a 400 by 75 yard area and officials said cause may be hard to determine.

Halloween Prank Sparks Lawsuit Over Gun Injury
Henry Patrick of Sikeston filed in Scott County Circuit Court against John Gray of St. James seeking 2000 for injuries to his 15 year old son Jack Patrick. The boy was struck by a bullet from Gray’s gun during a Halloween night incident when a group of boys attacked Gray’s car. Gray was fined 50 and agreed to cover medical bills and 100 in damages. the case is set for the March term.
