The Missouri House approved bills to boost welfare spending by about 50 to 51 million dollars per two years, nearly doubling old age assistance. Local word confirms Herbert Fox former furniture dealer of Morehouse was tried in federal court in Houston Texas for robbing a Texas bank. He was sentenced to six years in prison after the trial conducted several months ago.
Mrs W J Velvick aged about 15 died in a Bonne Terre Missouri hospital early today from complications of old age. Wife of Rex W J Velvick a retired Methodist minister she died at Bismarck where funeral services are to be held. Survived by two daughters Mrs Frank Latri of Charleston and Mrs Russell Jenkins of Chicago a son Harry Lee Velvick of Chicago and a sister in St Louis.
Mrs Nonne Kindred of MeMu'ne was honored on her 61st birthday Monday with a covered dish dinner at the home of a son in law and daughter. Attending were Branree and families, Mr and Mrs P C Ree Mens, and a list of Kendred relatives including Herbert Kendred, Tere Kendred, Jo, Allen, and others. The PTA meeting is set for Thursday at 7 pm, with Founder's Day programs and entertainment by third and fourth grades.
Ida Bertha Nothdurft, 54, a Benton Kelso area farm wife, was charged with murder after shooting Rudolph Julian Nothdurft, 55, as he tried to enter their back door Monday night. The inquest verdict said he died from a 12 gauge shotgun wound fired by his wife. Bond set at $10,000, judge continued case to allow defense counsel to consult. sheriff planned further questioning. Open verdict remains for prosecuting attorney.
The Sikeston City Council passed a resolution to install fluoridation equipment, directing the Board of Public Works to add fluoride to the water supply. A PTA delegation protested a crosswalk light removal near schools and urged safer crossing protections.

The first concerned Lester James Starkey of Fredericktown who died in an early February auto train collision. The second involved Beatrice Wright, a Black woman found dead in a rear room fire at 224 Young Street. verdict declared death from suffocation and burns in the cabin.
